Issues with water and sewer meters

By David Barkemeyer | The Cameron Herald

A fair number of issues arise in connection with requests for water and sewer service. Usually a request for service is a fairly straight forward event: the new customer calls in, stops by and makes a deposit, the inspector goes by the house and makes an inspection, the meter is installed to a connection that already exists, the valve is opened, and that's all there is to it. But occasionally someone requests a new service, or wants to subdivide a property, or a property does not comply with state codes or health and environmental regulations, then we have the potential for problems and controversy.

If the property does not pass inspection, the utilities cannot be turned on until the property is brought into compliance. Unfortunately, if the utilities are not on, the property is not to be occupied. I know it's hard to believe, but we deal with this problem in one way or another just about every week...
